Joanne, and the Wilder family are well-known in the Summerton community through church, school and numerous women’s auxiliaries. She was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Vice President for the Missionary Department and Sunday School teacher. Prior served as Superintendent, Deaconess, Church Clerk and Secretary at Open Fountain Fire Baptized Holiness Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge #366 before becoming a member of the Heroine of Jericho, Rose of Sharon Court #12.
She attended Scott’s Branch High School where she was a member of the basketball team, glee club and graduated with the Class of 1964. She received her degree in Elementary Education from Morris College, Class of 1969. Joanne became an educator with Clarendon School District One for twenty-eight years working in a variety of concentrations – special needs and parent educator.
Joanne leaves behind a family who loves and misses her including her two grandchildren Donivan Thomas and Wallace Charles and a continuing legacy of Women Wellness to educate, promote and encourage women to focus on their spiritual, physical and mental health.
Bringing ovarian cancer awareness to the community, especially those citizens in rural areas, and raising funds to further ovarian cancer research.
